I was assigned relief duty yesterday afternoon in the last period to a P1 class, and as we all do know, by that time of the day, we are barely dragging our heels into the staffroom yearning for the cool, calm, comfort our workspace has got to offer. Anyhow, there I was, armed with a storybook in hand, hoping that the thirty-minutes would zzzooooom past by the time the pages flipped to its last; and fortunately it did.

Just as the girls were returning to their seats to pack their bags, two of them came to me.

Girl A: Miss Farhanna, she wants to hug you. (Points to Girl B)

Me: (Puzzled and almost certain sense of hearing is deteriorating) She wants to what?… You want to what?

Girl B: Can I hug you?

Me: You want to hug me?

Girl B: (Nods head).

Me: Why do you want to hug me?

Girl B: Because I love you.

Me: (Baffled, didn’t want to disappoint girls and could use a good hug after a long and tiring day) Ok, if that’s what you want.

Girl A and B: (Hugs Miss Farhanna).

Oh my. Oh my. What happened to time?

I still can’t find the ability to break loose from the gripping amount of work, I’m almost beginning to lose myself in it. There has been so much going on that I want to cherish and savour, but every single time, I am sucked back into the whirlpool of work that begs the attention of my every being.

Work has been stupendously crazy beyond proportion. Despite the one week break, I do not foresee any time for a deserving breather, in view of my first ever impending observation next week and the myriad of wedding and engagement festivities that is lined up over the weekend. Then there’s the perfectly timed NIE assignment due midweek, the way overdue research transcription that I know my professor is oh-so-screaming for, the whirlwind of mess that my room is in from the moving out of the hostel room which, really, is impossibly making me lose sight of my own flooring. My little cousin, surprisingly, wants tuition every single day, and because he’s too cute I can’t turn him down so he’s occupying almost my every morning.

I still have nothing to wear for Saturday, and no matching headress for what I’m supposed to be wearing on Sunday.

Caffeine is so my life support.

I honestly feel like such a child who’s incapable of growing up.

I look at all my colleagues around me and I want to be just like them. I want to inspire like they do. I want to be an adult like they are. Something must have happened (or not) in my years of growing up, that stunted my development into an adult.

Someone from OLN commented that I am thinner. I would have liked to believe that except she was the only soul in the entire school who said that, and, I was wearing black then.

The six weeks left of NIE is now down to one: the passing of unceasing assignments and presentations, reflections and lesson plans has all culminated to this inevitable ending. I will so miss everbody in NIE, the good, the bad and the ugly. I will miss the late night resident Mcdonald delivery guy, the heaploads of laundry, the cheap and good canteen food, the muses of hostel life, the bitching of school life, and everything else along or not, those lines.

3 more assignments. 1 more week. Then its do or die.

Nothing like a near-death experience to jolt the shite out of you and remind you of the worth of the people so damn close to you. It takes just one news to throw you off your course and just completely stops the world in its track.

Thursday morning, my dad was admitted to MICU for heart attack.

I swear. It wasn’t just his heart. It was all of ours.
